I began this work on the worn central walkway floor of my maternal grandmother’s home in Chalchuapa, El Salvador. Made through direct contact with the surface, the graphite frottage records its uneven grid, accumulated wear and subtle misalignments, holding traces of a place that I cherish. She walked on this surface one last time, and I was not there to see it, but through this work, I could feel it.
